Indiviual Tax Idefication Number(ITIN)

日本の駐在員でお子様をお持ちの方、米国のSocial　Security　Number（SSN）をお持ちでなく、米国でビジネス、投資、または、収入がある方は、Tax　Returnを申請するためには、SSNの代わりとなるITINをApplyする必要があります。

W-7

通常、ITINをApplyするための条件として、ITINが必要である理由、W-7と必要書類がなければならない。そのためには、個人または、会社のTax　Returnを申請する際にITINをApplyしなければならない。　必要書類として、最適なのが、Passport/VISAのCertificate　Copyです。米国なら日本領事館、日本ならアメリカ領事館で、Copyして貰ったものになります。他の場所でのCopyは認められないです。W-7,必要書類, 納税申告を合わせて、書類申請いたします。ITINのProcessが完了するまで　3，4か月かかり、それから納税申告のProcessになりますので、労力と時間を要します。また、結構厳格で、Instructionどおりでなければ、Rejectされます。

必要書類

それでもITINをApplyする方が、大人の場合は、面倒の範囲で済みます。最近になり、お子様、Dependantの場合は、必要書類にPasspotだけでは、受け入れなくなりました。親と一緒に住んでいる証明として、Medical　Recordか、School Recordが必要になっております。当然、その書類は証明するために必要な住所、Medicalの診察日、病院名、Doctorのサインまたは、スタンプ等が、必要になります。アメリカに来て、数か月で6歳以下の子供は Medical　Record を手に入れるのは難儀です。IRSは、Rejectしても、その理由ははっきり説明しませんので、経験の浅いTax　Preparerは、ＩＲＳと問答を繰り返し、永遠にTax Returnを完了させることはできなくなります。

備考

ITINは、Regulationが頻繁に変更されて来ています。最近になり、ITINは、有効期限が設けられ、Renewal手続きが必要になりました。Renewalといっても名だけで、ITINを最初からApplyするのと必要書類は全く同じになります。以前は、Dependantは、ITINをApplyするとChild　Creditがもらえました。しかしながら、最近になって、SSNを保持するDependantでしか有効とならないように変更されました。したがって、DependantでITINをApplyしても、時間、労力、費用が掛かるだけで、それに対する益があまり得られないようになりました。米国に2年ぐらい滞在の人は子供はITINをApplyしない人もいます。ITINは、手続きが煩雑な上、1度　IRSからRejectされると、かなり時間がかかりますので、慎重に準備されることをお勧めいたします。

Proof of U.S. residency for applicants who are dependents.

A passport that doesn’t have a date of entry into the United States won’t be accepted as a stand-alone identification document for dependents, unless they are from Canada or Mexico, or are dependents of U.S. military personnel stationed overseas. In these cases, applicants will be required to submit at least one of the following original documents in addition to the passport to prove U.S. residency.

• If under 6 years of age: A U.S. medical record, U.S. school record, or U.S. state identification card that lists the applicant’s name and U.S. address, or a U.S. visa.
• If at least 6 years of age but under 18 years of age: A U.S. school record, U.S. state identification card or driver’s license that lists the applicant’s name and U.S. address, or a U.S. visa.
• If 18 years of age or older: A U.S. school record, rental statement from a U.S. property, utility bill for a U.S. property, or a U.S. bank statement, U.S. state identification card or driver’s license that lists the applicant’s name and U.S. address, or a U.S. visa.
